This policy explains how Become an Expert (“we”, “us”) handles personal data on becomeanexpert.ai and when you send us an enquiry. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
If you have a question about anything in this policy, email hello@becomeanexpert.ai.
What we collect
When you visit the website
Our web server logs your IP address, browser type, the page you requested and the time of the request. We use this to keep the site working and to look into problems or misuse. The site’s fonts and images are served from our own server, so unless you accept analytics cookies, visiting it doesn’t send your details to anyone else.
Cookies and analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site, such as which pages they visit and how they found us. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_L7R4Y01XL4, which last up to two years.
These cookies are only set if you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page, and if you withdraw consent we delete them. We remember your choice in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. We don’t use advertising cookies.
When you send an enquiry
The enquiry form asks for your name and email address. You can also tell us your company, how many places you’re considering, which option interests you, what you’d like from the programme and how you heard about us, and choose whether to receive occasional updates.
If you book a place
If you go on to book, we’ll also hold what we need to run the course and invoice you, such as billing details and which sessions you attend.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To reply to your enquiry and help you choose a track: our legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch, and taking the steps you’ve asked for before you book.
- To send occasional updates: your consent, given by ticking the box on the form. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any update, or by emailing us.
- To understand how the website is used (Google Analytics): your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
- To run the course if you book: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep the website secure and working: our legitimate interest in running a reliable website.
- To meet our legal obligations: for example, accounting and tax records.
Who we share it with
Your enquiry is read by the programme’s trainers, Jamie Reynolds and Alejandra Sivori, so either of us can reply. We also use a small number of providers to run the website and our business. They only process data on our instructions and under written agreements:
- Postmark: delivers enquiries to us by email. Data: the details you enter in the form.
- Google (Analytics 4): site analytics, only with your consent. Data: pseudonymised usage events. Google Analytics doesn’t store IP addresses.
- Our hosting provider: hosts the website and its server logs.
- Our email provider: holds the emails we exchange with you.
We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t share it with anyone for their own marketing.
International transfers
Some of these providers, including Postmark and Google, are based in the United States. Where this applies, transfers are protected by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum, or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, depending on the provider.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months in Google Analytics.
- Enquiries and related emails: up to 24 months from your last contact, unless you book a place.
- Updates list: until you unsubscribe.
- Booking and invoicing records: up to 7 years, for tax and accounting.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that’s wrong.
- Ask us to delete it (in some circumstances).
- Ask us to restrict or stop processing it.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis we relied on.
To use any of these rights, email hello@becomeanexpert.ai. We aim to respond within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when our practices change, and change the “last updated” date above. If a change significantly affects how your data is used, we’ll give reasonable notice by email or on the website.
